Data loss prevention is the practice of detecting and blocking sensitive data — customer records, credentials, source code, financial data — from leaving an organization's control through channels like email, file uploads, or web forms.
Effective DLP depends on recognizing sensitive data by its structure and content, since real sensitive data rarely appears in a form a simple keyword list anticipates.
