What Is Device Fingerprinting?

Device fingerprinting identifies a specific browser or device using a combination of signals — screen resolution, installed fonts, GPU rendering behavior, timezone, and dozens of other attributes — that together form a pattern distinctive enough to re-identify that device across visits, even without cookies or a login.

Fingerprinting is powerful precisely because it doesn't rely on anything a user can easily clear. Deleting cookies does nothing to a device's font list or GPU rendering signature.

The same technique serves two opposite purposes at MaskFlare: Cloak masks a session's fingerprint so it can't be re-identified across requests, while Radar reads fingerprint signals in the other direction, to recognize devices behind repeated abusive activity even when they rotate IP addresses.
